I was fortunate enough to be Medical Officer and Deputy Leader of Winter Party, Joint Services Expedition to Brabant Island, Antarctica. I provided all medical preparations for expedition, then was one of 12 to overwinter (for 9 months) in two-man tents, during which I provided the sole medical support, carried out physiological research, and even made ornithological observations.
The expedition was documented in the leader Chris Furse's excellent book Antarctic Year: Brabant Island Expedition, published by Croom Helm, in 1986. The photographs are superb, so I'll treat you to just a couple of dull miniatures here.
If you're off to similar places, then I'm only to happy to provide advice, particularly on the medical and survival aspects.
